Sugar...

I had a few reader's tell me about there sugar addiction and ask how to get rid of it.  As a parent I am very concerned about what my daughter eats and she is definitely a sugar lover.  I have stricked rules about what she eat's, and I tell her it's because I love her that I am so stricked and that she will appreciate it when she grows up (she looks at me with upset every time I say NO to sugar).  It is just as easy for me to go to the store and buy healthy stuff as it is to buy the sugar crap, it really does not take me any more time.  Plan out the shopping list and be aware of what you buy, look on the back of the box if you need to.  Fruit and vegetables are the healthiest choices for our kids and our selves and they are never hard to get.  Pre-plan and be mindful when heading to the grocery store!  Let your kids or yourselves have a cheat day if you must...

Metaphysiques...how can it help us lose weight???

Everything in the universe is made up of energy, including thoughts and feelings, and that "alike attracts alike".  Just think about it, your thoughts and feelings are energy that attracts similar energy.  This means that what you think is what you attract.  By now I am sure you think I am crazy, but I read this and I have to agree!  What this means, is that if you have thoughts about being healthy and fit, that is what you will be, and if you have feelings about eating healthy that is what you will do.  Choosing to focus on thoughts and feelings that are positive is the way to get started on a NEW HEALTHY LIFE.  Doing the work is easy having the positive thoughts and feelings is harder, so start by finding those positive thoughts and set goals for yourself.  A new healthy you will be on your way...

Failing a diet...WHY?

Most people that decide to get on a diet, fail miserably, WHY?  When people ask me if I ever gain wegiht I say NO, then they ask HOW.  I don't ever go on a diet I have chosen a lifestyle of finess and healthy food.  My tips for you all would be to decide if you are tired of being on a constant diet and chosing to start living a healthy lifestyle so you never have to be on that damn diet again.  It's easy, just decide to do it and stick with it.  Don't make up excuses like; I went on vacation, my kids were home sick, I was stressed at work etc.  I can go on and on BUT you all know who you are, make that change TODAY and you will be happier and healthier for the rest of your life.

What do you do when you are in a rut?

I have heard lately that a lot of people are tired of the gym and are looking for something new.  If you have been going to the gym and feel like it's not giving you anything or your simply just tired of it, then find something that will challenge you and put the gym membership on hold. I guarantee that if you find something that is difficult, you will be inticed and you'll find a new motivation for continues exercise .  My challenge lately has been yoga, I have found some very hard classes that challenge me mentally as well as physically.  I add 3 days of yoga to my 2-3 days at the gym lifting weights which is a new and exciting way to keep me on my toes.  Guess what, since my diet is always the same I have not gained a pound but I have lost a few instead.  How can that be, because I am not runnig as much as I always do, then how can I have lost weight?  It's because I am challenging my body by giving it something NEW.

Are you ready to change?

When you look in the mirror, what type of a person do you see? Do you see an athletic person or do you see a lazy person?  The way you view yourself, is the way others will perceive you.  If you look in the mirror and see a motivated and energetic person who wants to be healthy and active, then you will be that person, BUT you have to believe it...Do you???  Nothing in life comes easy and especially not a great body and a healthy being.  Only you can make that choice, how do you want to perceive yourself and how do you want to be perceived?  Start looking at yourself with a positive mind, see the person you want to be and make the change.

Out of your comfort zone...

All of us are very comfortable doing something we know well, getting out of our comfort zone is not something we welcome with open arms.  My brother is here visiting and he is a body builder and a martial art fighter, so today I decided to take him to yoga.  He worked extremely hard but glanced over every so often to let me know he was in excruciating pain.  He did great, as large and bulky as he is, he finished the class and only went down on his knees a few times to rest.  He thanked the yoga teacher
and told me that this would be his last visit.  I laughed and said, the point of a great workout is feeling uncomfortable and challenged, feeling of working muscles you never knew you had.  I told him that to stay with me these next two weeks he is going to have to go and get uncomfortable some more...Challenge yourself mentally and physically, get out of your comfort zone.  Are you afraid you might like it???

Nutrition

This might be redundant to some of you but I am going to go out on a limb and talk about nutrition 101, and what we need to eat!  We all need good nutrition and a balanced diet of all these groups.   Carbohydrates we need but the complex ones, which are high in fiber and low in fat such as brown rice, gluten free pasta (that is what I eat).  Proteins repair the muscles, cells and tissue and protect the body from infection and disease. We should have plenty of fruits and vegetables, that is where we get our minerals and vitamins from.  The "good" fats are polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats, both lower cholesterol levels in our blood and prevent heart disease.  These fats are; mackerel, salmon, trout, olive oil, avocados, nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables and wholegrain cereal.
Just think about what you eat in a day and ask yourself are you happy with the way you look and feel, if you are not then start to think about what you are doing wrong and make that change.  If you are having are having difficulties getting the greens down then do it in the form of a juice, find your local juice place or make it yourself.  Lastly remeber that 70% of our body is made up of water and it is crusial that we drink 6-8 glasses a day.  Water is needed to transport the nutrients and oxygen all around the body to where they are needed, its important for digestion, circulation and the excretion and elimination of toxins and waste.
